Description
"Sloth" is more than just laziness. It is about indifference or neglect, in other words, lack of care. As I was doing research for my Sloth piece on March 3 (last week), I happened to stumble across an event that happened on that day in 1859. It is known as the "Weeping Time". On that day, 436 slaves were sold in Savannah, GA. It is considered one of the largest sale of human beings in the history of the US. During the 2 day auction, on top of the constant rain, many tears were shed. Families and loved ones were torn apart. There was complete indifference towards their feelings, their families, and their humanity. My piece is based on the ad that was posted in The Savannah Daily Morning News for that "shopping" event. I used a black sharpie for the words and pencil/oil pastel for the tears tinged with blood.
